A KIND TRACTOR LTD
About
A Kind Tractor is the charitable arm of A Curious Tractor (ACT) — a regenerative innovation ecosystem based on Jinibara Country, QLD. We partner with marginalised communities, especially First Nations peoples, to dismantle extractive systems and build alternatives rooted in community ownership. Through seven active projects spanning justice innovation, ethical storytelling, circular economy, land regeneration, and art, we transfer resources, knowledge, and capacity to community-led initiatives. Like a tractor's power take-off, we hand over the keys.
Their Story
We started ACT because we saw the same pattern everywhere: communities with deep knowledge and proven solutions, locked out of the resources they need by systems designed for institutions. The grants landscape is a perfect example — applications demand corporate language, KPIs disconnected from community reality, and reporting frameworks that measure compliance over impact. As a small charity founded in 2023, we've experienced this firsthand. Hours spent translating community-led work into funder-friendly proposals. Reporting templates that ask for outputs when what matters is whether families are sleeping in beds or kids are staying out of the justice system. The admin burden falls hardest on the organisations closest to the ground. That's part of why we helped build GrantScope — to make the invisible visible. To trace where funding flows, who benefits, and who misses out. We believe community-based organisations that value relationship and cultural understanding should have equal access to funding. The playing field needs levelling, and transparency is the first step.
