About

The Norman Beischer Medical Research Foundation is an Australian philanthropic foundation supporting and promoting improvements in the reproductive health of women and in the health of their babies and infants. It primarily funds clinically based scientific research in obstetrics, gynaecology, and neonatal conditions by leading and emerging researchers, aiming to educate and inform medical practice in Australia and elsewhere.

Giving Philosophy

The Foundation approaches giving by funding highly innovative, clinically-based research projects that show potential for major benefit or for securing larger grants from other funders. It prioritises seed funding and also provides substantial multi-year fellowships to support early-to-mid-career clinician researchers. The Foundation values respect, integrity, diversity, equity, inclusion, dignity, accountability, and transparency, operating with the highest ethical standards.

Tips for Applicants

Applicants should use the official application template available on the foundation's website. For multi-year Innovation Grants, contact the Executive Director prior to applying. Full disclosure of all available and pending funds for research support is required. The Principal Investigator must be located in Victoria, and clinical research is a priority. Ensure all necessary Human Research Ethics Committee (or Animal, if applicable) approvals are secured before grant funds are released. Funds are generally available for research assistants' salaries, consumable items, and equipment, but not for secretarial assistance, personal computers, standard institutional items, or travel expenses. Attach a two-page summary curriculum vitae and declare any real or perceived conflicts of interest.
