ALMA Evidence-Linked Interventions
BMNAC Goori Learning Centres & Gumbaynggirr Bilingual Education
Education/EmploymentThree after-school Goori Learning Centres (Wongala Estate, Woolgoolga High, William Bayldon Primary) established from 2010, providing culturally grounded education support. Led to creation of the first bilingual school of an Aboriginal language in NSW — teaching children in both English and Gumbaynggirr. "Bularri Muurlay Nyanggan" means "Two Path Strong" — ensuring youth are strong in culture and strong in education. Includes Gumbaynggirr language revitalisation programs, cultural camps, and cultural engagement training.
Nyanggan Gapi Youth Training & Employment Pathway
Education/EmploymentSocial enterprise cafe and catering business (est. NAIDOC Week 2017) providing structured training and employment pathways for Gumbaynggirr youth. Offers School Based Traineeships in Certificate II Hospitality, barista training, and cooking classes using native ingredients. Partnered with TAFE NSW to boost Indigenous tourism industry skills. All profits reinvested into BMNAC community programs. Combines economic participation with cultural identity — youth work on Gumbaynggirr Country in a culturally safe environment.
