About

Autism CRC is the world's first national, cooperative research centre focused on autism, established in 2013. It serves as the independent national source of evidence for best practice in autism across the lifespan and the spectrum, translating research into practical resources, guidelines, and tools for autistic individuals, families, educators, and professionals. Rather than a traditional grant-making foundation, it operates as a CRC consortium that coordinates collaborative research and development across universities, service providers, community organizations, and government agencies.

Tips for Applicants

Autism CRC does not operate as a traditional grant-making foundation. Organizations seeking to engage should explore partnership opportunities, consortium participation, or the Co-production Partner initiative. Researchers can apply through scholarship programs or the Future Leaders program. Community organizations can participate through the Connect Hub or contribute to research through the participatory research guides. The Best Practice Portal and Knowledge Centre provide opportunities for resource dissemination.

Giving Philosophy

Autism CRC operates as a Cooperative Research Centre, applying CRC program principles that emphasize co-production with autistic people and end-users throughout the research process. Their theory of change centers on translating evidence into practical implementation through participatory approaches, national guidelines, best practice portals, and capacity-building programs. They prioritize lived experience leadership and ensuring research benefits the most marginalised autistic individuals.

Source of Wealth
As a CRC, funding comes from the Australian Government's CRC Program combined with contributions from industry, university, and community partners. This is not a founder-wealth model but rather a sustained government-industry partnership structure.
