Tips for Applicants

The Foundation values innovative, practical solutions that combine technical expertise with community impact. Successful projects demonstrate creative problem-solving (like the balloon-based LoRaWAN for swampy terrain), strong local partnerships (such as NGO collaborations), clear technical merit, and measurable community benefits. Multi-year projects are supported, and the Foundation appears to favor projects that can scale or be replicated. Strong technical documentation and clear demonstration of Internet stability, accessibility, or security improvements are important. Projects serving disadvantaged or underserved communities, particularly in developing countries within Asia Pacific, are prioritized.

Giving Philosophy

The Foundation operates through three core pillars: Building Capabilities (technical skills and community development), Driving Digital Innovation (supporting innovative solutions), and Supporting Digital Transformation (enabling systemic change). It primarily funds projects through its Information Society Innovation Fund (ISIF Asia) program, emphasizing practical, innovative, and locally-driven solutions that demonstrate ingenuity in solving connectivity and digital access challenges. The Foundation values collaboration across multiple stakeholder groups and supports projects that blend low-tech and high-tech approaches to solve real-world problems.
