Annual Giving
$500K
Grant Range
$10K – $5.0M

Tips for Applicants

Contact the Foundation directly at foundation@sl.nsw.gov.au or +61 2 9273 1529 to discuss funding opportunities. The Foundation accepts donations across three main areas (sharing, building, and conserving collections) and welcomes conversations about bequests and planned giving. For existing Custodian donors, contact Director Susan Hunt. Donations are tax-deductible and can be made online, by direct deposit, or mail.

Giving Philosophy

The Foundation believes in creating 'a living library for future generations' by supporting access to knowledge, education, and cultural heritage. Their theory of change focuses on three pillars: sharing collections with schools, families, scholars and communities worldwide; building collections through strategic acquisitions of historical and contemporary materials; and conserving fragile items for long-term preservation. They prioritise donor-funded initiatives that would not be covered by government operational funding.

Financial Details

Source of Wealth
The Foundation's primary wealth source is charitable donations from individuals, corporations, and supporters of the State Library of NSW. As a corporate foundation tied to a government cultural institution, it does not derive wealth from a commercial enterprise but rather operates as a fundraising entity receiving contributions from donors, bequests, and potentially some corporate partnerships.
