Description

The evolution of heat tolerance and life history in the Anthropocene. The evolution of heat tolerance and life history in the Anthropocene. The project aims to test a new hypothesis that seeks to explain why the evolution of heat tolerance is constrained: the life-history trade-off hypothesis. We propose that animals with high heat tolerance have a slow life history, whereas rising temperatures increase mortality and favour a fast life-history. Testing this hypothesis will generate a new understanding of how heat tolerance evolution and life history will evolve in the Anthropocene, which can be used to predict which species are likely to thrive under climate change and which will be threatened..
