Description

Molecular Engineering of Locally Concentrated Ionic Liquid Electrolytes . This project aims to discover new locally concentrated ionic liquid electrolytes, which have enhanced performance compared to current electrolytes, from mixtures of metal salts, ionic liquids, and diluent molecules. This project expects to use cutting-edge techniques to understand the arrangements and dynamics of ionic liquids, metal ions, and diluent molecules, in the bulk and at electrodes. Expected outcomes of this project include new knowledge that will enable molecular scale engineering of high performing, low viscosity, locally concentrated ionic liquid electrolytes. This should provide benefits via new batteries with superior energy storage capacity and durability which are crucial for integrating renewable energy sources.. Scheme: Discovery Projects. Field: 3406 - Physical Chemistry. Lead: Prof Rob Atkin
