Description

What makes a Culturally Responsive First Nations Mental Health Program? First Nations youth who live in rural and remote areas experience some of the highest rates of mental illness in Australia. Yet, they lack access to culturally appropriate care. Collaborating with First Nations communities, Elders and organisations, the research will integrate traditional and Indigenous knowledge to devise holistic, culturally safe, community-led intervention programs. This innovative project, which uses a yarning methodology, will contribute to Closing the Gap priority by addressing the mental health disparity between First Nations and non-Indigenous Australians. Benefits include enhancing the skills of carers of Indigenous youth with mental illness through evidence-based training and culturally appropriate support.. Scheme: Discovery Indigenous. Field: 4504 - Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health and Wellbeing. Lead: Prof Bindi Bennett
