Description

Body systems neuroscience: linking brain, body and cognition. How does cognition emerge from the brain? This Project aims to create foundational new knowledge about how the brain and body interact to drive cognition in young and older adulthood. To do this, a new sub-field of neuroscience will be developed, body systems neuroscience, enabled by two breakthrough innovations in biomedical imaging. The outcomes will be a new framework for measuring the biological determinants of cognition, and a new understanding of how age-related change in brain-body interactions contribute to cognitive change in ageing. The Project will provide significant benefits by identifying mechanisms that can be developed in the future to help Australian maintain their cognitive function and quality of life into advanced age. .
