Description
Return of Aboriginal Australian Ancestors to Place and Country. This project aims to repatriate the many unprovenanced Aboriginal Australians ancestors held by the Queensland Museum. This research will produce a high-resolution genomic map of Queensland's first people using a curated database of modern samples and ancient remains. Using whole genome sequencing/enrichment methods and the database, we will identify the likely geographic origins of unprovenanced remains. This new repatriation programme will provide significant benefits to the Queensland Museum as repatriation is a key component of the museum’s strategic plan. It will also substantially benefit Aboriginal Australians and their communities, accelerating the return of their ancestors to Place and Country. . Scheme: Linkage Projects. Field: 3105 - Genetics.
