Description
Indigenous Australian women’s marriages with USA foreign troops in WWII . This project aims to produce the first comprehensive study of Indigenous Australian women’s international marriages to US servicemen in WWII. Its innovative research focus examines how their migration and subsequent families supported more inclusive meanings of citizenship and structures of public life in Australia and the USA. Expected outcomes include new perspectives on Indigenous women’s contributions to postwar struggles for racial equality and social change, problems relevant today; energising international debates on the significance of homefront histories to the momentous transformations of WWII. Expected benefits include expanded knowledge of Indigenous people’s advocacy, mobility and diplomacy in understanding Australia’s past.. Scheme: ARC Future Fellowships.
