Description

Monitoring Australia's illicit tobacco and vaping product markets. This project aims to address key knowledge gaps about the availability of illicit tobacco and vaping products. Despite concerning recent growth in Australia’s illicit tobacco and vape markets, independent and reliable data on these products’ availability is very limited, and the effectiveness of new laws implemented to address these markets remains unknown. In response, this research will triangulate data from five novel sources: a mystery shopper study, littered pack/device collection, Google Maps data, social media data, and satellite imagery of illicit tobacco crops. Leveraging a multidisciplinary and experienced team, the project’s outcomes will enable policy optimisation and targeted law enforcement activities to disrupt supply chains..
